Two Sundays ago our missionary friends from Malawi were here. It was such a privilege to have them in our home. Before Sunday dinner Lauren showed them her wedding album.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller are serving the Yao people in Malawi, Africa. They use the chronological teaching method to reach villagers in more than ten different locations. One of the big needs they have is for mature leaders in the church. It was so wonderful to have this visit from our dear friends and family-in-the-Lord.

Tractors
Saturday I was trying to put together an ice cream party. At the last minute my brother invited me to take a road trip in his Shnazy new car. So I ditched the ice cream party and my shift at the blueberry farm. Thanks to my very obliging family I was allowed to take vacation and go to the tractor/antique festival.
If you ever get a chance to go the Buckley show...go.
Tractors, steam engines, antiques, old machines: Fabulous!
I didn't think to take my camera. So here is a shot from my cell-phone. It was all dark when we left but here is a row of the old tractors.

Unicycle
Another thing I can check off my list for 2013 goals. I attended the unicycle club that meets at the tridge.
This was the longest I've ever ridden. We started at the tridge, rode to the other side of Emerson park, and then went down by the river and up the long way. I only lost my balance a few times, but there was usually a tree or something I could use to remount.
That is Darren behind me on the Rail Trail. Randy and Lauren are back there too. |
That is Dave up in front of me. |
Randy, the unicycle man, has come to our blueberry farm for years. This year I finally met Randy and he invited me to join him and his daughter at the tridge. It was great. Two other guys were there and we all enjoyed the ride. After we got back Randy pulled out a tiny unicycle and had us all try it. The wheel was only about 10" in diameter. Even the big tall guy tried it. That was a funny sight!
p.s. I found out that it is hard to take a picture over my shoulder while I ride the unicycle.

Brian's car
After all Brian has said about the snob effect of a Ford Five Hundred...he now owns one!
When the auctioneer started begging for $1,000 Brian's elbow started to get that twitch Grandpa's used to have. It took a couple more ups and down of the elbow, but Brian came out the winner.
look at that hauling capacity...I'm a little jealous |
You never know what good deal Brian will bring home from his next farm auction.

BoBie
Sunday night was our annual outdoor hymn sing. We all gathered on the lawn behind the church building and sang and played instruments. Hosanna loved the non-convential arrangement and took full advantage of it by hopping up and down from different people's laps.
At the end of the service we stood around and talked. I was busy talking with a friend and Hosanna wanted me to play with her but couldn't get my attention. Libby told her that she had to call me. "Say Betsy." Libby instructed. Hosanna is not much for talking. She expresses herself with happy and sad sounds, but hasn't mastered the English language yet. Libby kept prompting her while I kept talking with my friends. Finally Hosanna tried it, "BoBie." She yelled at me. It was so cute I immediately answered.
For the rest of the evening I chased her and played with her. Every time I would slip back into visiting she would cup her hands to her face and yell, "Bobie." It worked. I had to go back and play with her.

Fresh Peas
We were just working out in the pea patch. I love fresh peas.
Sometimes when Uncle Wayne used to visit Mom would give us a paper bag and send us to the pea patch. We would pick the peas and then he would eat the little ones and I would eat the big ones. Then we would take the empty bag back to the house.
Uncle Wayne and I twenty years ago |
Just this week I got a text message from Uncle Wayne it said, "Eating peas in the garden." And today when I was out in the pea patch I messaged him. You can tell he wasn't here because there were peas left to take into the house.
